English

We understand much of the world through language, we express much of who we are through language and we interpret and create our world through language.

In the English faculty, our overall aim is to help students develop their skills in reading, writing and speaking and listening.  These skills enable students to access the wider curriculum and lead to them becoming confident, critical, articulate and creative individuals.  They will build the skills needed to express themselves clearly, creatively and imaginatively through speaking and listening as well as writing.  They will also learn to analyse and appreciate the influence of language in the media and in fiction.

All students will study a course which will explore the functional elements of the English language as well as the creative.  They will also be given the opportunity to engage in the insights of literature from the past and present and become inspired.
